When a new brand releases its new smartphone, we all get excited to see the IP or the Ingress Protection rating. But, as of till now, every brand have been using IP water-resistant ratings for their smartphones, and have not been able to successfully use the water-proofing technology inside smartphones yet.
When the Samsung Note 9 was yet to release in the year 2018, it was regarded by the fans and the critics alike that Samsung will finally go for a water-proof rating on their smartphone. But that didn’t come out to be true in any way, and therefore all eyes were on the newest smartphone that Samsung would be releasing on the 10th Anniversary of their Galaxy S series. Well, the cat is out of the bag finally, and let’s see whether the new Samsung Galaxy S10 is water-proof or water-resistant.
All you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S10
The first and foremost feature that stands out of the Galaxy S10 is the punched cameras on the display of the phone. Samsung didn’t go for the notch or the pop-up camera and instead has now gone for the punch hole camera at the front of the device. This makes the device look very unique, and will be one of the most standout features for the Galaxy S series as well.
The second most important feature of the Galaxy S10 is the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that is embedded into the display of the smartphone and uses ultrasonic sound waves to detect your fingerprint to unlock your device. This is very much different from the in-display fingerprint the sensor used by OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo.
The third and final most important feature that is present on the Samsung Galaxy S10 is the number of cameras the smartphone has – both on the front and the rear. The front of the device comes with only a single 10-megapixel camera that can shoot 4K @ 30FPS. The rear of the device comes with three cameras – two 12 megapixels and one 16 megapixels. All of the rear cameras can shoot 4K video at 60 FPS easily.
So, the Samsung Galaxy S10 water-resistant or water-proof?
If you were thinking about the Galaxy S10 being water-proof, then you will be very much disappointed to know that the smartphone comes with the IP or the Ingress Protection 68 rating. This means the smartphone can only be submerged under 1.5 meters of water for just 30 minutes. This clearly shows that Samsung has yet again failed to show to the world, that how do
you build a water-proof smartphone.
Hopefully, that stance will be changing in the later years and we will finally be seeing waterproof phones. With so much technology nowadays packed inside a smartphone, it is just very much difficult to seal the whole phone off and treat it as a water-proof phone. Till then, we just have to wait and see how the technology evolves and changes for the better future.
