Really and truly, only Samsung knows what Samsung is going to do, but this doesn’t stop the rest of us from speculating what we’ll see in the Galaxy S8. Much of what we’ve been hearing is on the 4K display that will be featured in all variants with a resolution of 4096 x 2160. At this time though, we’re only hearing the GS8, GS8 Edge, and GS8 Edge will feature a 4K display while it’s still unknown if we’ll even see the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active.
The Active series first debuted a couple of years ago, and although it hasn’t become as popular as Samsung would have hoped it still appeals to a certain subset of consumers. The AT&T exclusive is a unique variant and gives consumers added durability, waterproof, and shockproof features.
If Samsung elected to launch the S8 Active in 2017, this could mean the other variants will once not be waterproof. This is something that consumers have been asking for as the waterproof and dustproof features have been reserved for the Active series since the S5. About a month ago we heard it will return, and once again will be an AT&T exclusive.
If we do see the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, it’s certain to be waterproof, shockproof, and that durable and rugged design that AT&T customers have come to expect. We’re hearing a bit on what to expect in the S8 Active if it becomes a reality including a 5.2” display, expandable memory, 24MP rear camera, 6MP front camera, Qualcomm 820 SoC, and a UHD instead of a true 4K resolution. It’s also likely it’ll feature Android 7.0 preinstalled just like all S8 variants.
If it does return, we can expect to see a launch price starting at $700 for a 16GB model and around $750 for a 32GB model. As soon as we get something official on the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Active we’ll update you with all the latest details.
