With the month of October getting started, we’re just 3-4 months away from the launch of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, the next major series of flagship Samsung smartphones. The company is rumored to launch both devices earlier than usual this time, so it makes sense to start thinking about what these devices can cost. We’ll try to find a possible answer here. Let’s move on.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Specifications
First of all, let’s take a look at the expected specifications of this device to make an educated guess about its price. So, Samsung Galaxy S9 is rumored to come with a Snapdragon 845 processor, 4GB of RAM, 5.8-inch Infinity display with QHD+ resolution (3,200 x 1,800 pixels), 12mp dual-lens primary camera, 8mp secondary camera and 64GB of internal storage. Water and dust proof design, a rear-facing fingerprint sensor and Bixby with its dedicated hardware button are also the obvious features that will be part of this flagship.
The bigger version of the device, aka Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, is likely to come with a 6.2-inch Infinity display like S8, and possibly with a 6GB RAM option just like the S8 Plus.
With this in mind, now we can move on to other factors for deciding how much will this device cost.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Price
Another major factor that will play a role in determining the price of Samsung Galaxy S9 is the price of its predecessor, aka Samsung Galaxy S8. The currently available Samsung flagship was launched for $750 in the US, so Galaxy S9 is obviously going to cost more than this. Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, on the other hand, was priced at $850.
The contract pricing of both devices was a different deal though. Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus both were available for one and a half year contracts on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. The prices for Galaxy S8 ranged between $25 and $30 per month, while for Galaxy S8 Plus they were around $35 per month.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Price
Based on these two criteria now we can make some guesses about the price of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Firstly let’s talk about the Samsung Galaxy S9 – it’s likely to cost $850 or more, thanks to the dual camera upgrade and a bump in display resolution. The processor will also be a major upgrade, so a $100 increase in the price isn’t too much. Similarly, Galaxy S9 Plus is also likely to be priced around $950, thanks to the same reasons mentioned here for S9 and the price tag of latest Apple iPhone X. Needless to say that we need to get habitual to $1000 smartphones now.
Since rumors about Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are still thin on the ground, we can’t be too sure about these prices. This is just our expectation of what’s the least that both these devices can cost. They’re very likely to be costlier than this, because who knows what Samsung has in store. We’ll continue to update you with more updated pricing estimates as more details about both these devices come out, so keep checking back.
