With no physical home button, capturing screenshots with an iPhone X is a slightly tricky affair.
Our smartphones have provided us many ways of capturing the moments so we can come back to them in future. From photos to videos to audio recordings, there’re many ways to capture a moment with a smartphone.
Screenshots are also one of those ways. Whether it’s a chat, a memory or something else – you can capture anything with a screenshot and then come back to it later when you need it. They can be used for a variety of purposes, from serving as memories to being used in a lawsuit as proofs. No surprise that they’re one of the most widely used features in smartphones across platforms. They’re captured on Androids, they’re captured on iPhones. Period.
However, with Apple iPhone X has made it slightly tricky to capture the screenshot. The old good principle of pressing the side button and Home button at the same time doesn’t work anymore, because well, there’s no Home Button in iPhone X. A single swipe takes you back to the home screen from any app. But how do you capture a screenshot with that swipe? The answer is you DON’T.
Capturing Screenshots with Apple iPhone X
Yes – you don’t capture a screenshot in iPhone X with the Home button, because there’s no home button in it. Instead, Apple has shifted the function from to Volume Up button now.
It means that you’ll still have to press two buttons, but this time the combination will be different – it’ll be that of side button + volume up button.
Pressing these two buttons together will capture a screenshot for you, which will then appear in the form of a thumbnail in the lower right corner of your iPhone X. From there you can open the screenshot and annotate it before saving the final copy.
But, there’s a catch…
However, there’s one small problem. Screenshots captured in iPhone X come with an awkward shape, as many times it happens that the notch and corner mask are also captured with the screenshot, as can be seen in the images Tweeted by Benjamin Mayo:
The current iPhone X screenshots generated by this are not suitable for any marketing or press kits. It just looks so wrong. pic.twitter.com/CSZodHfXqk

However, some other developers have also tweeted their own screenshots, suggesting that iPhone X doesn’t capture the notch and corner mask with screenshots, as you can see below:

Which one of these images is true we’ll come to know only after iPhone X is shipped. So we should wait until then. For now we know that this time we’ll have to use a different key combination in iPhone X to take screenshots. The good part is that Apple has still kept it pretty simple and easy, so this change shouldn’t come as too much of a problem.
