Samsung Galaxy S8 Drop Test – What We’re Hoping to See, and Not See

We can’t share results of a Galaxy S8 drop test yet because the smartphone has not yet been released. Instead, we shall be talking a little about what we’re hoping to see from the drop test results once the Samsung Galaxy S8 has been released to the public. Smartphones are getting stronger, but there are a few areas we’d like to see improvements as the durability of any new handset is always something to consider

Below, we take a close look at what we want to see, and what we don’t want to see in the outer body of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge.

Stronger glass backing

The glass backing on the Galaxy S6 was a bit of a worry for some owners. It felt sturdy but there was always the worry that a harsh fall could cause a crack on the glass backing. It would be great to see if Samsung could use the same glass they use for the display on both the Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge and standard S8 as they do for the glass backing.

When compared to other backing materials, such as leather or plastic, glass seems to be an odd choice for durability, so let’s hope improvements are made here. The higher quality look of the glass and metal composite is what consumers want and need to see, and all three variants of the S8 including the Galaxy S8 Edge Plus are expected to follow-suit.

Sturdy ‘Edge’ display

The Samsung Galaxy Edge concept deserves to have more protection on the frame surrounding the curved display. Chances are that the device will hold up pretty well after a fall, but we’d hate to see poor results from the Edge in the Galaxy S8 drop test once it has been released. Hopefully Samsung will research extra durability possibilities for the Galaxy S8 Edge.

Less Scuffs

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy S8 should be able to take a punch, but hopefully there will be less chance to get scuffs on the device. We hope that the metal frame used on the S8 could be created with material that’s sturdier than that of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S6.

Fingers Crossed

So far Samsung has made some spectacularly durable devices in 2015 and 2016 – let us hope that 2017 will bring an even more durable smartphone, and Samsung is the one to bring it home.
