Samsung Galaxy S8 Processor Details

What do we know about the Samsung Galaxy S8 processor so far? Unfortunately we can only speculate, but we do have some fairly solid ideas about what the processor in the S8 could be. There are basically two different potential options for the CPU in the S8 and we’ll be discussing these potential options below.

Qualcomm Snapdragon or Samsung Exynos?

The first question to ask is whether the Samsung Galaxy S8 processor will be manufactured by Qualcomm or Samsung. In the past, Samsung has used CPUs developed by Qualcomm but they have also become much more interested in creating their own homebrew SoCs.

Whether Samsung chooses their own brand or Qualcomm will depend on a couple of factors. The first factor is stock – if Samsung can create a large enough inventory, then they’ll most likely use their own chipset. If they cannot create enough inventory, Samsung will most likely use Qualcomm or a mixture of Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets. The other factor is performance – if Samsung can’t create a stable enough chipset in time for the 2017 launch of the Galaxy S8 then they’ll definitely use Qualcomm.

Expected Processor Name

If Samsung decide to use Exynos for the Galaxy S8 processor then it’s likely that the CPU name will be the Exynos 9420. There is a chance that Samsung could change their naming convention for the chipset, but this is something that they have stuck to for the last few years.

If Samsung use Qualcomm, then we may be looking at a chipset under the Snapdragon line. The exact name for the Snapdragon chipset is currently unknown. One thing that’s for certain is the new chipset will have a significant enhancement with many spec elements including the overall battery performance of all variants of the GS8.

Processor Potential Performance

No matter what Samsung choose to use in the Galaxy S8, there’s no doubt that its performance will be far better than the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S7. Hopefully we’ll have some more details about the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S8 closer to its release date which is expected to be made official early 2017.
