Will Samsung Also Remove Headphone Jack in Galaxy S8?

September 26, 2016 | Amit Arora

The biggest highlight of last week on Apple’s decision to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 most probably all its other devices in near future caught everyone’s attention; it’s clearly about control over its headphone market. Apple made a smart decision with removing headphone jack they want to own the headphone market; this might upset its consumers, but they are looking at long term goals. And with this, it not seems so well for consumers as Samsung is apparently now considering doing the same.

Frustrating times for users instead of having to carry one adapter with your headphones, very soon they might need to carry two. As per rumors if Samsung is planning to remove headphone jack in Galaxy S8 just like Apple’s i Phone 7 and it will replace it with a proprietary port. Currently, Samsung is thought to be examining all aspects of this stage to see how feasible it would be.Samsung-Galaxy-S8-jackless Will Samsung Also Remove Headphone Jack in Galaxy S8?

The introduction of another port by Samsung would control licensing of that port, which would lead to undercuts of Apple’s licensing fee for headphone manufacturers. Samsung can be a game changer here it could easily offer the port to other Android headset makers at a low price or even for free. This port availability will help in quick expansion in the market, therefore, a stronger competitor to Apple’s Lightning port.

The coming months will be exciting as headphone manufacturers will wait and watch how things turn out, there might be some concerns as well. As each headphone, jack replacement means licensing deals that need to be struck to support the new ports. Then there will be problems related to manufacturing they’ll need to decide how many ports of each type to be produced based on the demand that is assuming a fixed cable solution.

If the competing standards are more than 2, than the headphones will soon start to ship with 2 or more cables you can switch depending on the device you use. These will take out the much-needed trouble for the consumers and allows manufacturers to ship one version of each type of headphones that support all devices.

It will also mean there will be a slight increase in the price of headphones mainly due to the extra cables packed in the box. These will make the products costs go high regarding the package, or if sold by units this will be considered the additional cost to consumers.

Samsung has to come up with a solution for all the questions related to removing of headphone jack before releasing Samsung Galaxy s8. For now, consumer and manufacturers don’t see the brighter side. Headphone manufacturers will now look more closely at the development of wireless headphones at affordable prices that would last a day. If this is achieved, then the products need not go through this painful experience.
Well, for now, we’re yet to discover the truth of these rumors and hence would request our readers to take a deep breath. If anything concrete turns up regarding Samsung Galaxy S8 going jack less, we will keep you posted on the same.
